okay I am going to be up front with you, if you want to become a deputy sheriff for your respective county, it's not going to be easy. In fact, if you're planning on applying for a rather large agency like Cook County sheriff department or Orange County, it's going to be even tougher. Whether it's a small agency or a large one, you will still be required to pass the deputy sheriff exam. If you flunk the exam, you might as well start applying elsewhere until you can get a qualifying score.
However, if you prepare for the exam correctly using a study guide, you will outperform the competition. I say competition because there are a lot of them. You will be completely floored when you see the number of applicants that show up for the initial fitness test. Some are older, and some are younger, but all of them are in pretty good shape.
So ultimately the best way to prepare, and subsequently pass the sheriff's deputy exam is to get yourself a study guide containing practice exams. Here's just a sample question that you might see on the test, use good common sense and judgment to come up with the right answer.

1)You are dispatched to a domestic situation between a wife and husband. Upon arrival, you notice that 2 deputies are already on scene fighting with the male half. You run up to assist, but the wife charge you with a broken bottle. You tell her to drop the bottle, but she refuses and start advancing in an angry manner.
What is your next course of action since the female refuses to comply to your verbal commands?
Answer: Since you've already given the wife a direct command to drop the weapon with no cooperation. I would now move up to the next level of force, and retrieve the taser gun, and/or the hand held baton.
